Review of pedagogical, creative and social activity of Stakhanov Igor Michaelovich, the professor of the Kharkov Arts Institute
I have known Stakhanov I.M. for many years since he was a student of the Kharkov Arts Institute where we studied together.
Having been a student of the outstanding artists as Deregus M.G, Kotov P.I., Mironenko V.F., Chernov L.I., Stakhanov I.M. graduated from the Faculty of Painting in the Kharkov Arts Institute. Being a student he worked very hard in drawing under the leadership of the Peoples Artist of Ukraine Mironenko V.F.
Since 1950 till nowadays he has been working both in drawing and painting.
In 1962 he was admitted to the Artist Union of Ukraine.
He began teaching in 1950 in the Kharkov Arts Professional School where he showed himself an outstanding teacher and was awarded by the order of “Valiant Labor”.
In 1970 according to the recommendation of the board of the Kharkov Department of the Artists Union of Ukraine he was given a post of the Main Artist of the Kharkov Art Group of Enterprises where he worked till 1975. During that period of time the company had made many main state tasks among them are the museum in Sokoly, Skovorodinovka, Balakleya, Sumi, decoration of the Kharkov metro stations. Many monuments and memorials were created in Kharkov and its region. Being the Main Artist of the Kharkov Art Group of Enterprises Stakhanov I.M. took an active part in these projects.
For many years Stakhanov I.M. has been the head of Drawing Union and Section of the Kharkov Regional Union of Artists of Ukraine, was a member of its board and a member of the KhAGE.
In 1975 he won the contest and was admitted to the Kharkov Arts Institute, Drawing Chair. His active and very creative pedagogical activity was awarded with academic rank of an Assistant Professor in 1979. Many Stakhanov’s students have honorary titles of Peoples and Honoured Art Workers, obtained academic ranks of professors and assistant professors.
Together with active pedagogical activity Stakhanov I.M. continues his creative work. Nowadays he is making many drawings and paintings. His themes are struggle for peace, labor, space, maternity, childhood, and creativity. Being an outstanding drawing artist Igor Michaelovich has made a great creative contribution in drawing culture of Ukraine. His creative series of colored prints and etchings like “The Song of Labor”, “Won the Peace-Defend the World! ”, “Memory”, “Hymn to Labor” and many others were exhibited in many art exhibitions both in Ukraine, the USSR and abroad in the international ones: Bologn, Italy – 1975; Ulan-Bator, Mongolia – 1976; Poznan, Poland – 1979; Lille, France – 1988; New York, the USA – 1989; India – 1989; Bulgaria – 1990; Canada – 1992 and others. Stakhanov’s works are in many museums of Ukraine, Russia, France, Poland, Italy and other countries.
Inspired creative work, demands to oneself and fruitfulpedagogical activity, creative individuality and active citizen position are the main features that characterize Stakhanov’s individuality.

Stakhanov I.M. graduated from the Painting Faculty of the Kharkov Arts Institute where he had been taught by such outstanding art workers as Deregus M.G, Kotov P.I., Mironenko V.F., Chernov L.I., Shaposhnikov M.O. Apart from painting even being a student he has been working in drawing under the leader-ship of Mironenko V.F.
Since 1950 till nowadays for many years creative work he has made many drawing series and paintings. The themes of his works are “Creativity”, “Struggle for Peace”, “Maternity”, “Childhood”, “Space”, “Labor” and many others. His creative series of colored prints and etchings such as “Strugglers for Freedom”, “Africa is Fighting”, “T.G. Shevchenko (6 lists)”, “In the Name of Peace”, “Song of Labor”, “We Defended the World”, “Memory” and others were exhibited in many art exhibitions in Ukraine, Russia, Italy (Bologne, 1975), Poland (Poznan, 1979), Mongolia (Ulhan-Bator, 1976), France (Lille, 1988), the USA (New York, 1989), India (1989), Bulgaria (1990), Canada (1992). Stakhanov’s works are in many museums of Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Italy, France and other countries.
In 1998 in honor of 175 anniversary of the Fire Department of Kharkov I.M. Stakhanov made the portrait of Chernobyl’s atomic power station disaster liquidator lieutenant-colonel V.P. Bludov that is exhibited in the Central museum of the Kharkov Fire Department.
From 1970 till 1975 I.M. Stakhanov has been working on the position of the main painter of the Kharkov Region of the Artists Union of Ukraine Group of Enterprises, having shown himself as an excellent specialist and administrator.
From 1950 apart from active creative activity he has been teaching in the Kharkov Art School where he was the leading teacher and was awarded by the medal “For Valiant Labor” in honor of the 100 anniversary of V.I. Lenin’s birthday. From 1975 he has been working as a teacher, assistant professor, professor of the Kharkov Arts Institute, Drawing Chair. The results of exams and course paper of Igor Michaelovich’s students confirm his right methodological direction and high pedagogical skill.
For 50 years of his pedagogical activity many of his students were awarded academic and honored ranks of assistant professors, professors, People’s and Honored Artists of Ukraine, Honored Art Workers. Among them are such well-known artists and teachers as N.I. Vergun, O.P. Mamontov, V.A. Tolochko, V. Kulyeba-Barinova, G.S. Korobov, G.S. Matsegora, G.S. Morkovin, N.V. Mironenko, V.M. Gontarov, P.A. Tayber, O.V. Martynets, M.Yu. Parokhenko, A.F. Kuzmenko, A.M. Alexeyenko, V.V. Apalkov, Yu. M. Vintayev, V.M. Starobuvtsev and others.
I.M. Stakhanov has many published works – articles, methodological literature etc. In the last year he prepared and has published the course book “Easel Drawing. The Methodology of the Diploma Works Doing” that was recommended by the Ministry of Education as a course book for higher educational art establishments of Ukraine.
In 1999 he was given the honor rank of “Honored Art Worker of Ukraine” by the board of the Kharkov Organization of the National Artists Union of Ukraine.
I.M. Stakhanov is an active participant and a disabled veteran of the Great Patriotic War. He was awarded with the Order of “The Patriot War, II grade”, “Red Star”, 16 medals, “For Bravery” and “For Fighting Services” are among them.
In some time Igor Michaelovich will celebrate his 75 anniversary and the 50 anniversary of his creative and pedagogical activity.
